If you know me, the phenomenon of “work–life balance” is one that’s always interested me. Coming from a 20-year-old, balance isn’t something I pay much attention to — and rightfully so. When in life will I have more energy and fewer responsibilities than I do right now?
That said, finding balance in the sense of slowing down and appreciating my position and the progress I’ve made is something I admittedly struggle with.
That was until I came across the framework of Reflection and Aspiration . Two words I constantly reiterate to myself.
Aspiration is what drives me forward. It fuels ambition and reminds me that anything is possible when I fully commit to it.
Reflection is my base. It forces me to soak in the present moment and “be where my feet are,” a phrase coined by Scott O’Neil, CEO of the Philadelphia 76ers.
If you’re a high-achiever like myself, you know reflection is the harder state to live in. Pausing long enough to appreciate the work you’ve done and the chapter you’re currently writing is a skill, one that takes time to develop.
Aspiration may build the future, but Remember reflection teaches us not to miss the present.
