The idea of doing less but better comes from my current read, Essentialism by Greg McKeown. Early in the book, he explains that essentialism is often misunderstood. Many people assume it means working less or avoiding responsibility, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. Essentialism is a system, a disciplined approach to focusing on what truly matters.

As John Maxwell puts it, “You cannot overestimate the unimportance of practically everything.” We tend to have what is called “ Importance bias “ which is when we deem so many different things as important it prevents us from identifying what actually matters most.

There’s a strange paradox in life: that it’s often not until later that we realize we spent too much time focused on the wrong things—the trivial  many instead of the meaningful few. Only when we shift our thinking toward essentialism do we begin to prioritize effectively. We start to understand that many things are simply distractions, pulling us away from making real progress on what truly matters.
