If you are reading this, I am currently competing in an Ironman 70.3 race.
Just 13 months ago, I was in a car accident that left me with a fractured C1 and C2 vertebrae. During that recovery period, while I was in a neck collar 24 hours a day, I signed up and committed to this race.
I knew it was going to mentally and physically challenge me in ways I had never experienced before. That's what sold me.
Do hard shit.
I typically make these messages a little more professional, but sometimes you just need to say it how it is.
When we put ourselves in uncomfortable environments and intentionally challenge ourselves, we learn who we are at our core. We see our strengths. We expose our weaknesses. We see the self-limitations we place on ourselves. And we discover what we are truly capable of becoming.
For me, fitness pursuits are the vessel toward finding myself. For you, it could be solo traveling, journaling, choosing a job that leaves the world better than you found it, or simply doing the thing you have been avoiding.
The opportunities are endless.
While I am looking forward to crossing the finish line and having that medal placed around my neck, the transformation has already happened.
Ninety percent of the battle has already been won through showing up over the past year, refusing to let the injury dictate the standards I hold myself to, and continuing to prove to myself that I am capable of more.
So my challenge to you is simple.
DO HARD SHIT.
D.K.
